The tortoise feed growing kit is a complete kit for growing edible weeds for Mediterranean tortoises. The kit contains: Edible weed seeds - enough for 4 sowings, seed trays, propagator top, compost and full instructions.
Mediterranean type tortoises such as Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni), Matginated Tortoise (T.marginata), Greek Spur-thighed Tortoise (T. graeca) and Horsfield's Tortoise (T. horsfieldi) all make great pets but they do have some exacting dietary needs. In the wild they would range over a large area, grazing almost exclusively on the leaves of annual and perennial plants that grow in their habitat, a diet that is typically high in fibre but very low in proteins and carbohydrates. This can be hard to replicate in captivity.
Most shop bought salad is low in roughage and can be nutritionally poor, while collecting wild weeds can be time consuming and at certain times of the year difficult. You can never be sure that they are free of insecticides, herbicides or other contaminants such as lead from exhaust fumes, or even that you have identified them correctly and have not collected something poisonous.

An alternative temperature during the night of between 3c and 12c lower than the day time temperature is available if required.
The thermostat is equipped with a Night time temperature drop facility. This will enable regular temperature changes, like those that occur at night for example, to take place.
The different temperatures between day time and night time are adjusted on the two dials on the front of the thermostat. The trigger between day and night is a 4th probe, called the 'Night sensor' with a sensor on the end that detects light and dark and adjusts the temperature accordingly.

Springtails are a useful food for people who breed many species of amphibians (particularly poison dart frogs) where the newly metamorphosed froglets are too small to take even micro crickets. In fact our own colony of Bumblebee Walking Toads would not be possible to breed without a copious supply of them. They also form an essential part of a bio-active forest terrarium where they help to clean up waste and detritus from the tank.
We now stock springtail colonies as well as a dedicated food for maintaining them. Typically people would have fed the colonies using fish food, boiled rice or mushrooms but the new ProRep granular Springtail food takes away all of the mess and hassle of these more traditional foods. It is simply sprinkled sparingly onto the surface of the culture media 2 or 3 times a week and is consumed completely, leaving no mess, waste or contamination.

With the prime thermostat range you can choose exactly how to control your vivariums. The Prime 1 has one main thermostat and the Prime 2 has two main thermostats. The main output(s) can be selected between dimming or pulse control. Once the control type has been selected you can then choose either a constant temp, Day and Night temp or up to 8 different temperatures throughout the day and night that you set the timing of. This would allow you to recreate the natural environment, with different temperatures throughout the day and night.
The on/off output on both the prime 1 and Prime 2 can be used either as an additional on/off thermostat with the same timed temperature features as the main channel(s) or as a timed on/off output for accessories such as lighting or misting. If used as a timed on/off output it can be setup in 2 ways. It can be set up to be switched on for a set amount of time at time intervals for example every hour for 10 seconds, or the user can set 4 on and off times in a 24 hour period.

This little fellow was brought back to us with completely closed eyes! After two days of bathing and eyedrops, we have managed to get his eyes open and extracted several huuuuuuge chunks of substrate and debris from each eye! He now has both eyes wide open and is no longer running into the side of his tank!

New in today we have a very nice 5-6ft Yellow Anaconda, (Eunectes notaeus).
This is a male and has a very steady temperament, it is now looking for a new home!! Its a very nice example of the species and has gorgeus greeny colouration on the head. These do grow large and arent for the fainted hearted, however for those capable they make superb pets and have a real 'wow' factor!!

This month will also see us starting work on our dedicated Amphibian Room in our shore based in Dinnington! We will be creating a dedicated area to display these fantastic animals and this will see us massively increase the range of species that we carry, the room will feature many of the terrestrial species such as Bullfrogs, Horned Frogs, and species of the Walking Frog complex. These guys are amazing! They are Egyptian Sandfish and can quite literally swim through sand! Their snout shape wide paddle feet and tail all indicate their semi-subterranean existance, and they are amazingly nice colours too! The two we got in last week sold the day they arrived!

Easter Egg Hunt - A Few Clues
We have had a lot of people finding easter egg shapes all over the website but no-one has found the egg so it's time for a clue or two.
Starting on the homepage it takes less than 4 clicks of the mouse for the page with the egg to appear.
It's very obviously an easter egg, if you find it then it will be very clear you have.
However we would also like to clarify that the egg is NOT just clearly displayed on a page somewhere, otherwise people visiting the site naturally would see it instantly, it is 'hidden'.
The page with the egg has been viewed many times in the past view days.

Tommy the rescue tortoise's results are back, and they show that he's on the right drugs! :-)
He doesn't really like taking his medicine or having his injections, but he seems to be improving, and has now started to eat a little, and even open the bad eye!

Tommy the rescue tortoise had been rubbing his eye last night and made it bleed.
A trip to the vets and a thorough investigation showed he has stomatitis and an eye infection.
He's now on antibiotic injections and oral pain killers, so should hopefully soon feel better.
A swab has been sent off to check he's on the right drugs.

Today we've had a very muddy tortoise brought in to us. He's a spur thigh and after a bath is looking a lot better. As usual, RSPCA and most rescues are not kitted up for tortoises!
Seems to have a problem with his right eye, and a very overgrown beak!
Looks like it's probably been living wild for years! I think he'll... be getting a trip to the vets in the next few days for a check out!
He's been called Tommy by very nice little girl who brought him in with her Mum and helped bath him! :-)

Lots of very interesting stuff! The spotted tiger legged running frogs and some of the corn morphs are amazing!
Some fascinating lizards too inluding pygmy chameleons, bribrons geckos, golden geckos, gargoyle geckos and many more. The black lined plated lizard was a surprise, as we... expected a baby and got an 18 inch long specimen!

Strange little geezers but quite cute. Like to live in small groups and eat fruit/leaves/seaweed/meat.
They also go 'shell shopping' for new shells, and bury themselves to moult. Very interesting!

The new edition of Practical Reptile Keeping magazine arrived today! As usual it's a good read, but we were especially interested in page 22 where we have a full 2 page spread.
Both the article and the advert look great and we're exited to be in Britains foremost reptile magazine for the first time.

We managed to obtain a pair of electric blue day geckos at Doncaster show. Our shop pet Bluey will continue to live on the counter, with the new arrivals being installed in a display terrarium on our staging area.
As well as helping us to show of a larger exo terra glass vivarium, we hope that the new arrivals will entertain our customers with their antics, and even breed right there in the shop.

Doncaster show seemed busier than ever this year, and we had our own tables. The show was a great success, and we sold a lot of products as well as meeting many nice people, and even buying a few reptiles ourselves!
We loaded everything into our van in the early morning, and set off up the M18 to the show what we thought was nice and early. When we arrived, space was already at a premium in the exhibitors car park and we had to queue to book in!
We just got set up on time, and it was then a blur of activity until suddenly we were packing up just after 4pm.
We learned a lot on the day(this was our first show) and look forward to improving our performance even further for future shows.
All in all, a good day!

Today we've started to take bookings for our reptile boarding service. Prices start from as little as £3.00/day, for small species of snakes and leopard geckos and reptiles can be housed either in their own accomodation, or one of our viv exotics vivariums. We endeavour to look after your reptile as you would, and will happily feed the same food and use the same substrate as you do. All food and substrate is included in the price. Our Nile Monitor is doing well, and is now feeding on crickets as if they are going out of fashion!
This little guy was a rescue. He was being kept on sawdust, and fed sutherlands meatspread, with no lighting. No wonder he didn't like his previous owner!

A good day today! We were inspected for our pet shop license and it was granted! This means we will now be able to sell livestock, which is a relief, as otherwise, I've got a lot of second hand vivariums!
Also today, our shop counter arrived. It looks good, and things are really starting to come together now. We are provisionally hoping to open our doors on the 4th of September. Watch this space!

Our shop signs went up today! They are very modern looking and are designed on photoshop, and then printed onto aluminium using a special printer. Looks great, and no one will have any excuse for not being able to find us when we open now!

We've had an offer running for about a week now on thermostats. We discounted the price to £13.99 for a Microclimate Ministat 100, and £16.99 for the Habistat Matstat. Pretty good value. Website goes live! The Launch of the website was a great success. Frozen food and livestock are still to be added to our listings, and we are still increasing the number of products we sell. We are adding new products to our site every day. We are also checking our prices, to ensure that we are providing the best value on the internet.

Move into new premises. Located on Dinnington high street in South Yorkshire. Lots of work to do, but should be open to the public in the next couple of months! First job is to clear and clean and lay a new laminate floor. Laminate is the floor of choice, because it is hardwearing and easy to clean hygienically.

Doncaster Show! No table this time, but we have a double table booked for September! Lots of reptiles to see, including some more unusual animals. There was of course, the usual mass of corn snakes, royal pythons, and leopard geckos, but a good day nevertheless and nice to meet up with fellow enthusiasts. There seemed to be a lot of boa morphs there this year. We bought various house and milk snake species for our breeding program, as well as some San Fransisco garters, hognoses and rainbow boas. Look out for our tables in September, and at both of next years shows. Look out for some amazing deals on dry goods!
